This is how the quilt has been completed:
The blocks of this quilt were found in St. Andrew’s Rectory 16years ago; however, the materials used for the blocks are considerably older. Some had been hand-sewn together to form the basis of a pattern, whilst the remainder were prepared for sewing.
These remaining blocks were hand-sewn by Carolyn Lindsley to complete the overall pattern to form the centre rectangle.
The top of the quilt was layered with wadding and backing by laying them on a flat surface to ensure smoothness and then tacking them together in a grid formation.
Next the layers were hand-quilted in the ditch so that the seams of each block were attached to both the wadding and the backing.
The border was then attached by machine with the rope pattern being hand-stitched to keep it in place.
Finally, the binding was added and finished by hand.
All this was very labour intensive and took a great deal of time.
We would like to think that the winner of the quilt will derive a great deal of pleasure and happiness from it.
